Water: How much should you Drink Every Day?                                by Mayo Clinic Staff

“Everyone has heard the advice, “Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.” That’s about 1.9 liters, which isn’t that different from the Institute of Medicine recommendations. Although the “8 by 8” rule isn’t supported by evidence, it remains popular because it’s easy to remember. Just keep in mind that the rule should be reframed as: “Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day,” because all fluids count toward the daily total.”

Drinking Tea May Lower Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, and Triglycerides by Dr. Mercola

“Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water — and may be even better…Research dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates. Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers.”

  1. So it’s actually possible to over-hydrate. When I was on a plan to change my eating habits I started drinking close to 120 oz of water a day (that’s like 15 – 8 oz glasses). That was outside of my fruit, tea and coffee intake. I was pretty active but I can see how I was maybe drinking too much water. No wonder I lived in the bathroom!

  3. Im pretty bad at keeping up my water intake. I can range from drinking 10-12 x 500ml glasses a day to drinking nothing. Someone needs to slap my hand on those days.

Hi, I always know when I’m hydrated–face, hands, lips get cracked and I get thirsty when not hydrated.
